In a corner of Southwest Houston, a community of refugees is tending to an urban farm as a source income, entrepreneurship and a means for resettlement.

Student photographers from Holocaust Museum Houston’s inaugural Summer Learning Experiences program visited the Westbury farm of Plant It Forward on Tuesday morning, July 9. There, the students had the opportunity to practice their photojournalism skills, while also spending time working alongside the farm’s growers, who came to Houston after fleeing conflicts in their birth countries.

The overarching purpose of the students’ visit to the farm was to learn about social justice, they told the JHV.
