Whether you’re a coach, player, owner, fan or sports pundit, you can usually gear up for an imminent NFL season without giving much thought to Jay-Z, rapper, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur, billionaire.

I hadn’t thought about Jay-Z at all since 2011, in fact, when he popped up in some lyrics on Paul Simon’s “So Beautiful or So What” album.

It appears Jay-Z always has an angle he’s working, and that’s fine as far as it goes, except that his latest angle is a partnership with the NFL that gives him a pivotal role in the league’s social activism effort and that makes his company, Roc Nation, the league’s official “live music entertainment strategist.”
